RV SOMETIMER ROAD TRIP THROUGH CANADIAN NATIONAL PARKS

April 17, 2019

What’s an RV Sometimer you ask? We get asked this all of the time and our answer is always the same.

It’s more about what an RV Sometimer is not! We are not Weekend Warriors, we are not Snowbirds and we aren’t Fulltimers. When we realized that we did’t fit into any of these groups we started to have an identity crises, asking ourselves “WHERE DO WE BELONG” haha. Not really but it seems there are many categories of RV Lifestyles and we were looking for a group of people with common challenges, priorities and travel styles similar to ourselves.

You know you are a RV Sometimer if – you are on the road for extended amounts of time, if you maintain some sort of home base which you go back to, if you go to multiple locations on your travels, and you may or may not work while on the road or at your home base.

In this Webisode we head off from our home base for destinations and adventure nearby (at least only 1 province over) and we take the opportunity to discuss some of our methods for funding our RV Sometimer Lifestyle.

We love being in British Columbia during the summer months, as the lakes, parks and mountains provide never ending stimulation to our senses. It’s beautiful to look at, the sun feels so warm and comfortable on my skin, the smells of the fresh water, trees, fresh cut grass, are all so wonderful. No wonder we keep coming back right!

We had a lot of fun on this trip because we really took the time to do some of the great stuff that we usually rush past. We also used this time to visit with family and friends that are too far away to see regularly but not in the right locations to make it on our regular travel routes. Being a RV Sometimer really does give us the freedom and time to see those folks we might not be able to otherwise.

The Shuswap Lake Provincial Park is only a few kms down the road from our house. In 21 yrs, we have never stayed there. I know how crazy is that? We hang out there all of the time and go to events there, we’ve just never actually stayed for awhile. So it was totally cool to act like a tourist and stay in a site like we would in other places. We had so much fun and got to show you how beautiful and fun our lake is. Oh don’t worry there will be lots more boating and lake pics coming up.

Heading up to Revelstoke to check out the mountain coaster was something else we had never done. We have been there for skiing and since we are not very good skiers it was a place we would not go to in the winter, (at least not me, Kory would go sledding there if had the opportunity) but wow the pipe coaster in the summer was so cool and so fun! Everybody needs to have a go at that.

Then we headed off to travel through the Rockies. It just doesn’t matter how many times you have done that in your life, it is always SPECTACULAR! The beauty of those mountains is awe inspiring and it really does remind you how INSIGNIFICANT you are in the grand scheme of this Earth.

We went through Yoho National Park, Banff National Park and to Mt Robson. Unfortunately, I do have to admit that these places are getting waaaay to overcrowded in the summer months for me. If you are going I would suggest a shoulder season, just as much beauty and more serenity.

There is lots of roadside pull outs with viewing areas and information to learn about, such as Mount Terry Fox. He is a Canadian who set out to run across Canada on his prosthetic leg to raise awareness for Cancer. Sadly, he died before he could finish his run but he did get very close and we do think it is important to honour his efforts and contributions to #CancerAwareness.

Western Canada really is a beautiful place and being a RV Sometimer allows us to spend the time exploring it and sharing it with you. There is so much more to show you and tell you about, but all in good time my peeps! We will return to our home base and travel afar, then come back to closer locations and never run out of things to see, so stick with us and see what else we see.

We did this trip in Aug 2018 and fully encourage any of you wanting to see some of the Best Places Western Canada has to offer, to head on up and even come stay with us. Check us out on Boondockers Welcome we’d love to have you. Drop us a line in the comments section if we can help you out with your trip planning or answer any questions.

See you out there!

      1. Hey Gretty,

    1. I am a sometimer! I love that! Was a full timer then 18 years no camping. This girl needed a Diesel Pusher again. Like you I am so intrigued with the rv world and the options it can add to life. We rent our Florida home DEC-MAR and rv. Love your videos.

      1. Awesome Linda, so great to hear from a fellow Sometimer! Thanks for watching and joining us here. We are thrilled that you like our videos. We love making them but boy they are a lot of work so it is really nice to hear when someone appreciates them. I’d love to hear more about your RV Sometimer Lifestyle too. I am doing some research on it all and how different people make it work. If you are interested in contributing there is a survey up on our Facebook Page, Does Size Matter RV and we would love to hear your opinions. If the survey isn’t for you, that’s ok I’d love to just chit-chat about it all here. Where are you planning to go next?

    1. I enjoyed your video and how easy it is to use your site. There was only one that gave me pause and that is 35 degrees being pretty and warm. Where I’m from 60 to 75 degrees is nice and slightly cool and warm. I am going to enjoy looking through the rest of your site and YouTube videos.

      1. Ha Ha,

Thanks for commenting and enjoying our site Kathy. I just want to remind you that 35 degrees in Canada is Celcius which is equal to 95 degrees fahrenheit. That makes it a lot warmer now right? We hope you like our posts and enjoy our videos. We love sharing them with you and then getting to chat like this about them, such fun making new friends. Thanks for stopping by.

    1. Canadian people are some of the nicest I have ever met very friendly

      1. Awww, thanks. We try to be kind and are very proud of our beautiful country.
