Grand Design Solitude 373FB (Unbiased RV Review)

December 14, 2018

We had an opportunity to review a Solitude when we were in Rockport, Texas. I had high expectations from the research I had done and I am happy to report that it did not disappoint!

The Grand Design Solitude 373FB was a unique floorplan. On top of the excellent construction and awesome views I forgot we were supposed to be in a tiny home!

Ok well, this is a large trailer and will take a large truck to tow it, I admit, but it certainly feels like home. It is nicely appointed yet not too much, as some can be. The floorplan seemed standard until you got to that master bath and it was still functional when closed up.

This would easily be a rig for a full timer or snowbird. I think that it lends itself more to the type of traveller that plans to stay in one location for extended periods of time. It is way too much trailer to be packing up and heading out on the road regularly. Not that it can’t be done but it would be a lot of work and it is a lot of trailer to drive around. There is plenty of space to entertain and have overnight guests but it does lend itself more to a couple then a family, just because I know there are better floorpans out there for families.

OUR LIKES!

  1. I loved the counters and appliances, so spacious and beautiful.
  2. The master bath was incredible, the huge closet with space for laundry.
  3. I couldn’t go without saying that the new outside stairs were surprisingly wonderful and easy to operate.
  4. Kory really liked the basement storage, it was huge.
  5. He also liked having the convenient half bath that would keep him from having to go upstairs all of the time.
  6. Among many others, like tanks size, he really liked the seat/coat rack at the front door. Very useful!

OUR DISLIKES!

  1. I was not happy with the placement of the night stands, they were just to far away from me when I was in bed.
  2. I also didn’t like the little tables at the seats in front of the TV, they just didn’t seem functional enough for me.
  3. As I often mention on many different trailers, I don’t really love the ventilation of the frameless windows.
  4. Kory didn’t like how big it would be to tow around.
  5. He also didn’t think the lounge chairs across from the TV would fit him very well, but that is often a problem for us.
  6. Lastly, he thought the control panel was waaaay too high for us. Bring out the stool again, the story of our life! HaHa

Overall, as often happens when we do these reviews, I could totally see us in this trailer. Not at the moment with our current travel style but I would totally go for it if we were to change that. If you can see yourself in this one you can ask Camper Clinic in Rockport, Texas. I’m sure they would be happy to show you or you can get more info from Grand Design themselves.

    1. Hello, we are currently looking at this model RV
Yes used of course. We rarely buy anything brand new! Lol! Call us cheap. I’ve been reading random reviews on this model when I came across your reviews which are very interesting. Thank you for the time and unbiased reviews.
One thing I’m curious about or nosey for that matter, lol. You mentioned that the control unit was high up. So I’m wondering how high? Also just wondering you and your husband’s height for an idea. I’m rather short hence my concern however my husband seems to be a giant compared to me.
      Just curious Jenni

      1. Hey there Jenni,

Sorry for the late response we are in the middle of making changes to our site and I missed your question.

I am 5′ tall and Kory is less, so your husband will probably be able to reach it all but there are some things in these lovely 5th wheels that are just out of reach for us. No big deal we just get a stool or use a broom or well you know we figure it out. Certainly not a deal breaker if you find the right RV.

If you have found this one and it is in good shape, within your budget and fits your wants needs and priorities we say ‘go for it’. The bugs are hopefully worked out and if it was taken care of it will have lots of life left for you to have a wonderful time making memories and having adventures in and you don’t get stuck with the depreciation.

We would never call you cheap more like smart.

        Good Luck
        Kory and Denise
