The snow just keeps coming and I can’t wait to get going! I’ve been counting the days and we have been waiting for a window in the weather that would allow us to get away on dryer roads. In Canada that means COLDER WEATHER. Weird I know but the colder it is the more dry it is. Wet roads mean icy roads, icy roads mean LOTS of SALT by the highways maintenance. This is BAD to drive through for the poor Beaver. So we wait for cold therefore dry roads and head out to get to lower elevations where there isn’t so much salt, or hopefully no salt, on the roads.

Since we live out in a rural community with limited services, when we leave we have to get all of those last minute chores done on our way through town. I know, I know it seems weird but we don’t tow a car so that means that we drive around town in the Beaver to get stuff done. No Biggy we are good with it!

A great place to stop when travelling through the Fraser Canyon on Hwy 97 is  Hell’s Gate. It has a really great view. It is actually closed in the winter, but I highly recommend going down the gondola car if you are ever passing through there. Learn about the Sockeye Salmon migration up the Fraser River. It really is an amazing story and I love it because on the big run, every 4 years, the salmon that make their way up the Fraser River will come right to our beach in front of our house to spawn. It is a spectacular circle of life and I have the privilege of sitting quietly on my dock and watching them. This I consider a Sometimer perk!

Being in the Lower Mainland for a few days allows Courtney and I to go shopping together, something we have done since she was 5. We both love spending that time together.

The trip over to Vancouver Island, Victoria to be exact which is where Courtney lives, can be beautiful or rough depending on what Mother Nature decides for that day. We lucked out and had a beautiful sunset crossing. Hanging out with her for a few days before we go South for a couple of months fills us up with the fun family times and love all 3 of us crave.

Again, with no car we take another side adventure using public transit, the ferry system and a rental car to get back to the Beaver. It’s fun to figure out, usually inexpensive and usually takes us on a completely different path then we would ever have gone otherwise.

The car rental company we used was sooooo good. Nice, accommodating, well priced, picked us up at the ferry and just generally made the whole plan work seamlessly. We highly recommend him. We finally start thinking we should be heading south but then another distraction caught our eye. The Earlybird RV Show in Abbotsford. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to do some great RV Reviews so we spent the weekend doing that and you can see those under our RV Reviews tab. Fun but the delay put us into an ice storm so we were happy to get on the road after that.

It seems like it can take us forever to get moving sometimes but this is the life! There is just so many things to do and people to see. We have to remind ourselves to RELAX this is why we are Sometimers so we can wander where we want and do what we want.

We’ve learned not to schedule ourselves to be somewhere on a particular date if we can avoid it because we know we will probably get distracted along the way.   Oh Look A Butterfly! that’s us!
